Do you know what pleases God? Faith… Faith pleases God. Hebrews 11:6 tells us that without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. And what is faith but the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb 11:1). Faith that God will provide and make a way for you, that he will comfort and guide you…keeping you in all your ways. God calls for us to have faith in him and to trust in him.
I recall a time my eldest Riley and I were at a park and I was teaching her how to swing from the monkey bars. The bars were out of her reach so I picked her up and placed her on the bars. She was scared and hesitant to swing because she was afraid she would fall. Fear of her circumstances prohibited her from moving. I told her I loved her and asked her to trust and have faith in me that I would not let her fall. I was in control and I knew that if she were to fall that I would catch her, I would bear her up… lest she dash her foot on a stone. My knowledge and what I was capable of is nothing compared to the infinite knowledge and power that God has, but similar he provides and bears us up as well. Our knowledge of what is to come is limited, but God’s view is perfect. So he says have faith in ME… put your trust in ME… tithe more than what you believe you are capable of and watch what I do. Trust and have faith in me and see how I amaze you!
I know many of us have a financial testimony, where we have fallen on hard times, facing a financial Goliath where hope is no where to be found, when we have done all that we can do and our hope rest in God to come through for us. Recalling the situation with my daughter and the monkey bars, she went on faith and proceeded to swing bar to bar, mid way her grip gave way and she started on her way down. In that moment I’m sure her fear was at an all time high… powerless in that situation to save herself, her only hope rested in me and the faith she had in her father to save her. I didn’t come when she wanted me to, but I did come. Just as she was half way to the ground I beared her up! I was never not in control of the situation, though in that moment my daughter may have felt otherwise. In the same way, there are times In life we feel like we are on our way down, that the world is unraveling from up under our feet… we have little to no hope, but it is God who comes through for us in those times. He may not come when we want, but he is ALWAYS on time.
I understand that sometimes things do not go as planned and the turn out is not to our liking… maybe it’s the lost of a loved one or a severance from a career… though children of God we live in a fallen world and sin runs rampant here. The bible tells us the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23), so yes sadness and pain will accompany this life, but yet shall we praise and have faith and trust in the Lord. We don’t praise the Lord for these storms, but we can praise him while going through them. Jesus tells us that in this life you will have trials and tribulations, but to fear not because he has overcome this world (John 16:33). Surely the present sufferings of this world are not worthy to be compared to the eternal glory and beauty of the Lord that awaits all those who believe in Christ.
So we win in the end, despite the pain, the tears and disappointment we win. Do not allow circumstances to discredit the blessings God has bestowed upon you throughout your life. Otherwise you will be like a wave being tossed back and forth by the wind. Have faith in He who has called you into kinship through Christ. Rest in the Lord whos peace surpasses all human understanding… Glory and Faith be to God and our savior Jesus Christ and our helper the Holy Spirit! Amen.
