As Jesus moves closer to the cross we encounter Him in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper. Here Jesus is anointed with an expensive perfume by a woman. The disciples did not approve of this act, viewing it as a waste, for the perfume was very expensive and could’ve been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor. “Aware of this, Jesus said to them, “Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me. When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial. Truly I tell you, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her.””Matthew 26:10-13 NIV. Also on this day, Judas a disciple of Jesus Christ meets with the chief priests and conspires against Jesus. He agrees to 30 pieces of silver in exchange for aiding in the arrest of Jesus. From then on Judas would wait for an opportunity to hand Jesus over.
