Yesterday afternoon Jesus was crucified along side two other men. Many people wept while others rejoiced. Amongst those who rejoiced were the Sanhedrin, the main antagonist of Jesus and his crucifIxion.Fearful of meeting the same fate as their Lord, Jesus disciples retreat into hiding, sad and defeated, despite Jesus telling them that it had to happen this way… they didn’t understand.“From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.”Matthew 16:21 NIV. The Sanhedrin, worried that Jesus disciples would disrupt Jesus body, sought Pilate for assistance.
“On the next day, which followed the Day of Preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees gathered together to Pilate, saying, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, ‘After three days I will rise.’ Therefore command that the tomb be made secure until the third day, lest His disciples come by night and steal Him away, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ So the last deception will be worse than the first.” Pilate said to them, “You have a guard; go your way, make it as secure as you know how.””Matthew 27:62-65 NKJVI
